Lake Corpus Christi, TX…

When we left Potter’s Creek, we traveled just as far as Lake Corpus Christi, which is south of San Antonio.  We had not been here before, and since it is a state park, we had the privilege of renting 2 sites again.  At least we had plenty of space to park the van! :)   Lake Corpus Christi isn’t a very big lake, and we came because we heard the fishing is good.   I think that the fishing was OK because the lake is half dried up and the fish are concentrated in what is left! LOL!

The park isn’t what we would call a pretty park, but Vaughn and some of the kids got to see an armadillo in the field next to our sites, which we thought was pretty cool.  But the neatest thing about Lake Corpus Christi is the CCC-built building that is on the grounds…

FORTUNATELY, some of the boys just happened to have their swords in the van when we discovered this gem.  This place was just begging for a sword fight!

The CCC built this pavilion in 1933 and 34.  The building is now boarded up, but the picnic areas and balcony are still accessible (and perfect for roving duels!).

Even the little girls had a fabulous time exploring the ‘castle’.  The princesses were quite at home!

The balcony looks out over the lake…

The boys didn’t fight the entire time tho; they could also be found playing with the ant lions…

course, so could the little girls…

The boys did get some fishing in (with some serious help from Peanut – that girl loves to fish!)…

We though Lake Corpus Christi would be a fabulous stop, but honestly, we were glad that we had only paid for 2 nights because the bugs here were terrible!  We sure are liking this mild Texas weather, but there sure are a lot of bugs since it doesn’t ever get cold enough to kill them off!!!

So, while we were glad to check out this new fishing spot, we weren’t too sad to leave it either.  Especially since we were headed to our fav Gulf beach!   Last time we were at Padre Island, Caleb was just a little thing, but suddenly, Caleb is growing up so fast!  He walks everywhere (and he is the cutest dancer!), and he is the spitting image of Eli when Eli was that little (right down to the bowlegs).  Caleb seems to have Eli’s love of hats also…

So, lately, if Eli starts getting out of line ;), we remind Eli that we brought him into this world, and we can still take him out… and we ALREADY made another one that looks just like him!  hehehe!   😀

and yep, the boys are sitting on the floor in the slide.  In another week, we should be getting a call saying that our couch is finished (and where would we like it shipped?).  Looking forward to having a regular place to sit once again!  LOL!
